Description

Star Of The Sea is the long anticipated debut studio album by The Countess of Fife – an insurgent alt country outfit led by Fay Fife (best known as the dynamic front woman, founder and creative force of classic Scottish punk bands The Rezillos/The Revillos).

Think of the Cramps meeting Johnny Cash in an unholy alchemy of country, punk, rock and gospel.

Fay’s glorious vocals – rich, dark and powerful – combine with Allan (So You Think You’re A Cowboy) Mcdowall’s singing guitars and harmony vocals to create a perfect storm to play with your emotions, together with some of the finest Scottish musicians around.

Star Of The Sea is co-produced by Fay and award winning producer (and composer/musician) Jim Sutherland (whose disparate projects include Eliza Carthy’s Big Machine, La Banda Europa and rapper Loki). In addition to the core of Fay and Allan, musicians include Willie Molleson, Chris Agnew, Chris Stout, Dave Milligan and Kirsten Adamson, with Sutherland on percussion.

The songs are mostly written by Fay, and in combination with Allan Mcdowall, with Humans Are A Bad Breed written by Fife and Mcdowall with guest writer Martin Metcalfe of Goodbye Mr Mackenzie.

From the out an out country feel of Second Fiddle to rockers Goodbye Motorbike Guy and Humans Are A Bad Breed, and the more reflective Trapped and Let This Night Be Over, this album is a “must listen” which shows many unexpected sides and shades to Fay Fife.
