Description

‘One of the most creative vocalists on the UK scene’ (BBC Radio 3), improviser and composer Brigitte Beraha (Babelfish, Solstice) has recorded a number of critically acclaimed albums and toured extensively both as a band leader and side-woman. Beraha’s work embraces not only contemporary jazz and the core jazz and latin repertoires but, increasingly, cross-genres projects such as the recreation of Basil Kirchin’s music as part of Hull City of Culture 2017 with the BBC Concert Orchestra and curated by Will Gregory, the re-imagining of Eddie Parker’s 12-piece “Debussy Mirrored Ensemble” or the “Raising Hell with Henry Purcell” recent performance led by Ethan Iverson at Kings Place in 2018 which are all cementing her reputation as an expert with a wide range of experience and creative scope.

Brigitte Beraha’s ‘Lucid Dreamers’ – her first new band as a leader in over ten years – premiered at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall as a trio with the inventive’ George Crowley (Melt Yourself Down, Yazz Ahmed) on tenor saxophone/ electronics and ‘high energy and powerful’ Tim Giles (Nostalgia 77, Iain Ballamy) on drums/electronics in November 2019 as part of the London Jazz Festival with music written by Brigitte, inspired by the industrial world that we live in. Now extended to a quartet with ‘world class’ Alcyona Mick (Natacha Atlas) on piano, the band are now releasing a new album, recorded live in January 2020.

“Something of a new departure for her, the small, electronically enhanced unit offering unique challenges which pay-off surprisingly well. Her lissom vocals frequently overlaid by looping, creating a mesmeric effect […] with ethereal, emotionally imbued soundscapes.” Jazz Journal
