Description

“Sir Walter Scott, the Heart of Mid-Lothian” is a new album of dance music recorded to accompany the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society’s latest book, honouring one of the most influential figures in Scotland’s history and celebrating 250 years since his birth. This brand new recording of music played on 21st century instruments harks back to the 19th century in arrangements reminiscent of Scott’s era, with Alistair McCulloch on fiddle, Andrew Forbes on piano and Màrtainn Skene on cello.

Màrtainn Skene, from Lochaber, now living in Glasgow, is a musician grounded in the West Coast tradition.

Alistair McCulloch is one of the most sought after fiddlers in Scotland today, both as a performer and teacher. His versatility and breadth of repertoire have kept him at the forefront of Scottish music for almost 20 years.

Andrew Forbes is Director of Music at Glasgow Cathedral and was hailed by The Scotsman for his ability to transform the organ into “the most sublime of musical conduits”.

The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society is a Scottish charity that promotes and develops Scottish country dance and music worldwide. The RSCDS has produced 100s of Scottish country dance recordings.
