This is Ronald MacDonald’s first album release as a singer/ songwriter/ guitarist. He played in a number of Jazz-Funk bands in the 1970’s and 1980’s, including Flyer, a Falkirk-based band and Sidewinder, a Manchester-based band. Ronald wrote all the songs for Flyer and co wrote the material for Sidewinder. Both bands had good success in playing numerous live gigs in their locales, including, in Sidewinder’s, case a frequent residency at Manchester’s premier jazz club, Band on the Wall.
Although Ronald had the opportunity in 1978 to follow a professional career in music, he ended up pursuing a successful career as an economist, but his passion to make and write music remained throughout his career. With semi-retirement in 2016 came the opportunity to spend more time writing and playing music and this album is the result. It contains seven songs and one instrumental and is in the contemporary jazz style. One of the musicians playing on the album described the music as a hybrid of Steely Dan and Toto, infused with an LA groove.
