Description

As kids, Annie Raitt & Brigit Forsyth played together – climbing trees and the like. Later they played and sang in Edinburgh cafes during the Festival which was the start of their very long musical connection. Nowadays one lives in East Lothian and the other in Cheshire so the M1 has become as familiar as their own backyards. Every journey to a rehearsal, recording session or concert Annie passed the Angel of the North, and eventually wrote most of the title song on the motorway. As the lyrics in the album are part of a life’s journey so the shared music is part of a life’s connection.

Elegiac songs of love and loss based on a repeated shared journey beneath the wings of the Angel of the North and totally successful in its accomplished country-folk music evocation of that particular stretch of the A1(M)! This is Wings of Desire narrated by Mia Doi Todd backed by Tom Waits’ band! Really rather good as that last-stretch homeward-bound midnight road-movie music!
