Description
PROVENANCE is the second solo album from Scottish composer, pianist, and producer Ross Whyte.
Known for his immersive soundscapes and acclaimed work with Gaelic-electronic duo WHYTE, Ross returns with a deeply personal and place-rooted collection of compositions, blending contemporary classical piano with elements of ambient electronics and Scottish traditional influence.
Created over two years between the Cairngorms and Edinburgh, PROVENANCE reflects on memory, identity, and heritage—reimagining fragments of folk melody and original themes through a minimalist, meditative lens. Drawing comparisons to the likes of Nils Frahm and Erland Cooper, the album offers a rich palette of piano, field recordings, and subtle electronics.
Marking his first solo release since 2015, PROVENANCE features collaborations with Gaelic vocalists and instrumentalists, and is presented with a unique visual identity by artist Dan Shay.
Rooted in Scotland’s cultural landscape but global in its reach, PROVENANCE is both a reflection and a reinvention—an evocative album that invites quiet attention and deep listening.
